Giving Day Matching Funds:
Patrick Missodey Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship (MPMMS-OU)
Thanks to a generous gift from Dana Parke, the first $1,000 in gifts will be matched.
Dana Parke is endowing this scholarship in memory of her late host father, whom she says made an indelible impact when she studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal in 2012. “Patrick was more than just my host father, he and (his wife) Yollande had become part of my family,” Parke said. “I always knew I wanted to give back so that other students who do not have the financial means would be able to benefit from similar study abroad experiences. I realized there was no better way to honor Patrick than to establish a scholarship in his memory to support Oakland University students to study abroad in Africa."
Native American Advisory Committee Gift Fund (30331)
Thanks to a gift from the Clinton River Watershed Council donations up to $500 will be matched.
Donations to this fund support OU's commitment to preservation of Native American land, culture and community. More specifically, funds will help with planting Native foods on this land, bringing knowledge-keepers to teach and lead ceremonies in the community, provide materials for cultural practices (hide, beads, food preparation, clay-pot making, basket weaving, regalia creation), and language revitalization courses and tools. The Native American Advisory Committee liaises between Oakland University and the Indigenous community to ensure continued respectful relationship between the two, and to ensure a sovereign stewardship of this land by its original peoples. A return of Native land-practices to OU supports the health, culture, and land preservation of the campus and beyond.
