The Oakland University College of Arts and Sciences is comprised of 18 departments devoted to teaching and researching liberal arts, including the humanities, social sciences, visual and performing arts, and mathematical and laboratory sciences.
As the largest academic unit at Oakland University, the College of Arts and Sciences gives students the opportunity to select from more than 100 majors and a wide range of concentrations such as archaeology, biology, criminal justice, environmental studies, international relations, pre-medical studies, social work and urban studies to enhance and complement their primary focus.

Provides a spring/summer research stipend to undergraduate or graduate students in the department of Biological Sciences who are pursuing studies in ecology or behavior. The award may be used for tuition, books, living expenses and/or research project costs.
Mark Murphy Endowed Scholarship (68783)
Thanks to a donation from Brian Murphy gifts will be matched up to $1,000.
Established in memory of Mark Murphy by his parents, Brian F. Murphy, professor emeritus, and Toni Sanchez-Murphy, their colleagues and friends. Recipients must hold a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have a declared major or minor standing in studio art. Preference is given to students interested in photography.

CAS Michele and Karl Plattenberger Japan Study Abroad Endowment (61523)
Thanks to a donation from Michele Plattenberger gifts will be matched up to $1,000.
Established by Michelle, CAS and SECS '97, and Karl Plattenberger, the Japan Study Abroad Scholarship makes awards to undergraduate students with a major or minor in Japanese language, who will be participating in a study abroad program in Japan.
Washington DC Study Away Program (DWDSA-OU)
Thanks to a generous gift from Mr. Nihal Goonewardene, former student staffer in the OU Athletics Department and 1972 OU graduate, gifts will be matched up to $5,000.
This fund will support costs to attend a trip to Washington, DC to interact with local OU alumni and immerse themselves in government agencies and concepts studied in PS 1100. The trip will introduce students to the DC culture and enhance their understanding of key principles in American politics, while also helping recruit students to be majors in political science.
Thanks to a generous donation from Bill Hamilton, gifts will be matched up to $10,000.
Provides funds to support the development of a greenhouse in addition to the LORACS (Laboratory for Outdoor Research, Agriculture, Conservation and Sustainability) facilities. This greenhouse will provide students and faculty an opportunity to grow plants year-round for botanical research and education. Currently, OU does not have a greenhouse for plant science research or educational activities on campus. LORACS is home to the student organic farm and facilities that support projects aimed at studying climate change, biodiversity conservation, agriculture and environmental sustainability.
